FAQ with some helpful answers
> Is there camping at the track?
RV Parking Camping is limited in the RIR Speedway infield since it's only a .75 mile oval, and there is a waiting list for spaces and no shower facilities available. Call the track for more - (804)-345-RACE). Some homes/lots provide camping in the area around the race track but these can be awfully overpriced and of course are provided on a first come first served basis. Of course Virginia (around Richmond) is not without its campsites and camping grounds, and for this you should consult your usual camping listing website. Beware though parking/traffic problems in the heavily congested area on race days. Seems like a hotel and then the free shuttle is the best bet for the race travelers to this event/destination. > How is traffic organized? NOTE: This was changed for the 2003 September NASCAR race and may well remain in the new configuation. Closer to race time visit Richmond.com for traffic details

> What if we don't want to drive? RIR has been adding shuttle parking spaces every year. For example there's a handy shuttle service from the Richmond Coloseum

> What about parking? Parking is usually free at the racetrack, off Carolina Avenue to the east of the racetrack in an industrial park, but don't think about camping there, there's a tow-away policy inforced by local County Sherrif's 3 hours after the final event on Friday and Saturday night of race weekend. Note too that traffic, as at all such events, is directed, particularly after the event. Check the official website for a map on inbound and outbound traffic plans.

Movies: Besides the usual mall barn movie houses, there are also independent and art movie houses at Westhampton and at the National Historic Register Movie House, The Byrd (some Byrd history). The Science Museum has an IMAX theatre.

> Nightlife: Night life is varied with many restaurants, bars, and clubs in nearby Downtown Richmond. Popular destinations are the Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom historic areas where you'll find restaurants, items of cultural interest, and historic architecture on cobblestone paved streets between 12th and 14th street by the river. There's also The Fan District, where several IRL team members have been spotted in restaurants after events.

Got Go-Carts? Yep, G-Force Go Carts, with 0.125-mile road course, is located just across from the Richmond Raceway Complex at 4245 Carolina Avenue, Building B, or check out the Virginia Dirt Karting Association

> On racedays the circuit offers free entry to its fan pavilion for ticket holders. The pavilion includes show cars and other displays. For more about this contact the speedway directly at (804) 345-7223.
> Richmond and surrounds also have a number of dirt tracks if you're not at the circuit watching Busch racing on the night before the big events.
> Drag racing enthusiasts might be interested in either the Richmond Dragway, near the Airport, or Virginia Motorsports Park, near Petersburg. VPM is a motorcross park and IHRA facility, and runs at least one National every year.
> Virginia International Raceway is a venue for both AMA Superbike and Grand AM racing.

“Richmond is one of my favorite tracks, and I’m pretty anxious to get there. Having an off-weekend for Mother’s Day was nice … it’s always fun to hang out with my mom and my family. It’s time to go racing again. I’ve always liked Richmond, because you can run side-by-side there, and for me that’s all I need to be a happy dude. They resurfaced the place, and sometimes that means one-groove racing, but I hear it should be a wide groove by the time we start the race Saturday night.”
