cleveland & burke lakefront airport circuit guide - grand prix cities tickets and travel

> Where we headed?
Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport Temporary Grand Prix Circuit.
Here's your Cleveland Travel Guide including tickets and hotels for the Rock and Roll City by Lake Erie Unfortunately with the demise of Champ Car in early 2008, it remains to be seen if Cleveland hosts another Grand Prix in the near future, but boy was it fun to head out there on Labor Day in the heat and check out how an aiport could become a race circuit, could become a ton of fun under lights. Hopefully something will develop soon and the scream of racing engines will again fill the downtown area. Enjoy my guide and as always, Godspeed on your travel adventures, wherever they take you. Cvetko Ostroznik, Grand Prix Cities
VENUE ADDRESS: Cleveland Downtown, just along the lake shoreline from Browns Stadium and the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.
> Directions? How do we get there?
You could almost throw a rock from the North (downtown) end of Rock and Roll Blvd. When you see the Hall of Fame turn right and follow the crowd to the airport enterance. The sign I'm standing under in the picture above was slung accross Lakeside Drive right by between the expressway and the lakeshore.

Local Public Transit
Buses & Trains: Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) Trip Planner. Note on a cleveland transit system map, while South Harbor seems the nearest station to the track (top right), and it is as the crow flies, just across Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, an uncrossable 3-lane highway, the lack of a bridge or tunnel means you'd need to walk so far west to get over to the shoreline (via East 9th Street aka Rock'n'Roll Boulevard), that you're better off alighting at North Shore station.

Extra Notes about Cleveland
If the fun I had in Cleveland on the 4th of July weekend 2003 is any indication of what the Rock'n'roll city is all about, sign me up for one of those lofts they're renovating down by the river on West 9th Street!
It's a warm, friendly, safe, and cultured city filled with interesting tourist spots, nice places to eat, entertainment districts of several different ambiences, mounds of Culture, &, I learned, before Henry Ford started hammering out the hummers in Detroit, Cleveland was America's ORIGINAL motor city.
As far as the race itself, I've seen plenty and been in a zillion towns that host them but so very rarely did I find an event that so completely catered for the needs of race fans, while managing to completely side step the uppity trash that passes for excitement at other races. A truly down to earth event at a spectacular one-of-a-kind location, not only an airport but in 2003 they ran the event at night!
I know I'll be going back to visit Cleveland Ohio as many times as I can. I'll see you there. Godspeed, Cvetko Ostroznik.
